Week 1: Three miles

53:30 minutes, 2:3 minute run/walk ratio

Well, here I am again. I didn't really think I'd be training for any more races—and I may not be actually running one this time—but, after a long hiatus I've started going to the gym again, and I decided to go ahead and reserve Saturdays for "long runs" on the treadmill, just to see how far I could get. And if I end up signing up for a half-marathon at some point, great. Otherwise, I'll just run in the gym and that will be enough.

My last attempt to train for a half marathon fizzled out. I didn't run Las Vegas. I can't really remember what happened, except that it got way too hot to run and I just missed too many long runs and gave it up. At least, running on a treadmill, I won't have to worry about the weather. (Except in winter, driving to the gym in the snow. But if I can get to the gym, I can run and work out in any weather.)

I plan to do 2 miles on the treadmill, plus work out with weights, on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and then long runs on Saturdays. One week down! I've been using a 2:3 minute run/walk ratio for my midweek runs, and used it for today, too, but I got pretty worn out by the end. Maybe next week I'll try 1:2 minutes for the long run.
